Hi! How are you?
My name is Mika Kesämaa. I am a professional Finnish teacher. At the moment I teach Finnish in Jämsä (Central Finland).
I have a master’s degree in literature and Finnish language with pedagogical and didactical studies as well.
I have worked a variety of jobs! I have been a cabbie, a taxi center agent, paper boy, summer writer in a newspaper and who knows what! Most importantly, however, for the last years I have been a teacher and a trainer. I have trained adults in IT, and I have taught children in primary school. In recent years I have transitioned towards Finnish as a second language (S2) teacher and I have been complementing my knowledge and experience in that field. As of now I am a integration training teacher in Jämsä Adult Education Center (työväenopisto). I feel that my work as a techer is important and impactful. I love my job because it carries importance, but also because the students I work with are amazing!
I also teach Finnish in the evenings in my in-person classes in Jämsä. I offer tailored private lessons in-person and online as well!
In my free time I read books, write and listen to music and podcasts. I also love walking and riding my bike in the fresh air and beatiful nature. On Saturdays I go on language walks with my friends. We walk or play games together and practice Finnish in a very casual way.
Learning a language is not always easy, but I try to make it fun whenever I can. In my classes we focus on honing our spoken language skills and listening comprehension. We do written exercise as well, but my main focus is on developing verbal communication skills.
I make a bespoke lesson plan for each class, but I also want to know what ja how YOU want to learn! Every lesson is exactly how you want it to be!
Get in touch and let me know, if I can help you learn Finnish!
